In the fast-paced world of mountain biking, safety is a top priority. However, traditional protective gear often falls short, leaving riders in search of better options. That’s where Avision MTB comes in. Designed by Spencer Allen, a design graduate and entrepreneur, the Avision Guardian knee pads are changing the game—and Tool was proud to play a role in their development.
Traditional knee pads, which rely on compression sleeves and Velcro straps, can be restrictive and uncomfortable. Over time, elastic materials degrade, and movement can be limited, making it difficult for riders to perform at their best. Avision’s mission? To create protective gear that offers superior security while allowing full freedom of movement.
Spencer developed a groundbreaking solution with a multi-layer padding system that uses viscoelastic foam and gel-like materials. This design absorbs and disperses impact away from critical joints, reducing the risk of bone bruises and sore joints, and ensuring riders stay protected on every trail. But the innovation doesn’t stop there. To improve how the gear attaches to the body, Avision replaced traditional straps with Fidlock V-Buckles and adjustable webbing, providing a personalized and secure fit. Tool took care of the industrial design, engineering, branding, and graphical layout for the project.
Once the prototype was ready, Tool helped Avision take the next step by fine-tuning the product, sourcing a reliable production vendor, and assisting with packaging to make sure the knee pads would stand out on the shelves. The Avision Guardian knee pads are now CE Certified Level 1, ensuring top-quality protection for riders.
The Avision Guardian is now available and receiving great reviews from mountain bikers. We believe these knee pads are truly elevating the standard for safety gear. And this is just the beginning—stay tuned for more products from Avision as they continue to redefine safety and comfort in action sports.
