Color Kinetics
Connected OLED
Research I Industrial Design I Engineering I Prototyping
We helped Philips Color Kinetics build a connected OLED technology demonstrator. Originally intended for indoor or outdoor use, this device would be waterproof and have wireless connectivity. Users would interact either through direct and physical control or via smartphone applications. The luminaire was intended to be viewed directly, so this device could be used for wayfinding and stylish interactive displays of color.
Our contributions included being on the team that defined the architecture and feature sets. Then we developed a set of concepts for further discussion. With their feedback we refined the concept, finalizing the housing style and detailing the intended part breakup. After further review, this work provided a roadmap for two rounds of engineering. A set of prototypes were delivered to Philips Color Kinetics for validation.
