Replicator
Mini 3d Printer
Research I Industrial Design
For the Replicator Mini, Makerbot wanted to put the print quality of its other printers into a smaller model for actual desktop use and to make it immediately affordable. Released to the public in 2014, it received awards at CES from multiple tech publications and continued sales into 2019.
When Tool was asked to take on the task of designing the Replicator Mini, we had already collaborated them on other efforts in the past. This included some of the upfront user research, design, and engineering work that fed into the Makerbot Replicator 2. So the Replicator Mini project was a natural fit for our two groups and we took on the task of designing this new model with passion. After a few iterative rounds, our work was handed off for final development at Makerbot.
